The episode starts with Mangal seeing Kusum digging in the garden and asking what she is doing. Kusum says, “I’m burying Sowmya’s memories here, as I can’t bear to see Adit’s pain.” Mangal replies, “The wound Sowmya gave Adit is still fresh, give it some time to heal.” Kusum notices Mangal in a new saree and asks where she is going. Mangal says, “I wore the saree you gifted me. I’m going to Pratima ma’am’s house as she invited me for a pooja.” She leaves from there.
At home, Pratima tells Dadi, “I feel we are doing wrong with Mangal by keeping this pooja. Kapil will not like it.” Bua Dadi says, “It is necessary, and since Kapil is out of town, there’s no problem. By the way, where is your bahu?” Mangal arrives and tells them she brought the prasad she prepared. Bua Dadi says she came late and asks Bijli to take Mangal and make her wear the saree she chose. Mangal says she is already wearing a new saree, but Dadi insists that she follow her order.
Meanwhile, Kusum notices that Mangal forgot the pooja thali, so she decides to take it to her. Mangal comes out after changing the saree and questions Pratima about the type of pooja. Bua Dadi tells Mangal not to ask questions and to sit quietly. She remarks, “It seems your mother didn’t teach you properly,” and asks Pratima to tell Mangal to follow her orders. Pratima requests Mangal to sit in the pooja. Mangal agrees.
The pandit begins the Shuddhikaran pooja. He pours water on Mangal from a pot. Shocked, Mangal stands up and asks why he poured water on her. Bua Dadi orders the pandit to continue the ritual. Mangal questions Kapil’s family about the Shuddhikaran. Kapil’s Dadi says that for Mangal to enter their home, she must undergo this ritual. Mangal demands to know the reason and refuses to sit until they tell her. Bua Dadi warns her to sit quietly.
Just then, Kusum arrives and asks about the Shuddhikaran. Bua Dadi says it’s their family matter and tells her not to interfere. Kusum replies, “Mangal is my daughter, so I will question.” Bua Dadi says, “That’s exactly why I kept this pooja. I don’t want Mangal’s past to affect her present. For this marriage, she must do the ritual.” Mangal asks why it was hidden from her. Bua Dadi says, “There was some flaw in your first marriage, that’s why you got divorced. I won’t let my grandson Kapil suffer. That’s why I arranged this pooja.”
Kusum says, “My son cheated Mangal and lost a gem like her. If anyone needs purification, it’s Adit, not Mangal. It’s wrong to always blame the woman. How does the wife become impure when the husband is at fault?” Bua Dadi says, “Mangal’s marriage is broken, yet she is still staying at her first husband’s house. I want her to break all ties with the past.” Mangal says, “Kusum has been my mother for the last 15 years, and this bond cannot be broken by any ritual. Also, you didn’t even inform Kapil about this pooja.” Chinta Bua says, “I’m not afraid of anyone. You must do this Shuddhikaran if you want to marry Kapil. Pandit ji, continue without stopping.”
Mangal stops the pandit and says, “I have lived my life with honesty. I don’t need this purification.” She firmly tells Dadi she will not undergo the ritual. The pandit says, “A forced pooja is meaningless,” and advises Bua Dadi not to force Mangal before leaving. Bua Dadi fumes with anger.
