The episode starts with Sowmya asking Mangal to do all the household chores, saying she will handle the more important things in the house. Sowmya declares she will perform the Lakshmi Pooja today.
Kusum comments on Sowmya and tells Mangal that she wants her to handle all the preparations for Diwali and perform the Pooja, not Sowmya. Mangal agrees, adding that she will light up the entire house with diyas once the old lady arrives. Kusum asks Mangal why she always waits for the old lady to buy diyas from her. Mangal explains to Kusum that, while there are plenty of designer diyas available, buying clay diyas from the old lady helps her, and she feels good about it.
Sowmya tells the old lady that no one in the house will buy diyas from her and asks her to leave. The old lady insists that Mangal always buys diyas from her and calls out to Mangal. When the old lady tries to enter the house, Sowmya pushes her, causing her to fall. The old lady curses Sowmya, saying she will not have a happy Diwali, and leaves. Sowmya wonders who will light all the diyas and decides she will decorate the house with electric lights instead.
Sowmya gets ready for Diwali and praises Adit when she sees him. Kusum comments on Sowmya’s choice of decorations, noting that she used electric lights instead of traditional diyas. Kusum remarks that Mangal used to light 108 diyas to decorate the house. Sowmya dismisses the comment.
Later, Mangal buys diyas from the old lady, who thanks her and tells her how Sowmya mistreated her.
Kusum imagines Adit and Mangal performing the Pooja together, but she snaps out of her daydream. She prays to the Goddess, expressing that she brought Mangal into the house as a symbol of Lakshmi and asks the Goddess not to let Mangal be insulted by Sowmya performing the Pooja. The pandit arrives and tells Kusum that Pandey Ji sent him to perform the Lakshmi Pooja as he had to leave for some work.
When Sowmya sees the pandit, she recognizes him as the one who officiated her previous marriage attempt with Adit. She hides her face from him. The pandit calls for the husband and wife to sit for the Pooja. Kusum asks Sowmya to join. Suddenly, the lights go out, and Sudesh goes to check on them. Adit asks Sowmya why she told him to cut the fuse. Sowmya tells Adit to look at the pandit, explaining that he was the one who was supposed to perform their marriage ceremony.
The pandit says it’s inauspicious for the lights to go out, especially on Diwali. Kusum comments that if Mangal were here, she would have decorated the house with 108 diyas. Just then, Mangal enters with the diyas, explaining she met the old lady and bought them from her. The pandit praises Mangal. The lights come back on, and Sudesh announces that someone had turned off the fuse.
Kusum asks Mangal to sit for the Pooja, but Mangal says that Adit and Sowmya should perform it. The pandit, however, questions why they would do the Pooja, as they are not husband and wife. Kusum insists they are, but the pandit clarifies that Adit left the mandap midway through the pheras with Sowmya. The pandit then refuses to conduct the Pooja and leaves. Kusum, shocked by the revelation, asks Mangal to perform the Pooja alone. Mangal agrees.
Mangal performs the Pooja alone, offering the aarti to the Goddess. In Karthik’s house, Lakshmi also offers aarti to the Goddess. Gayatri, recalling Jia’s words, drops the aarti ki thaal when Lakshmi hands it to her and blames Lakshmi. Lakshmi apologizes and tries to clean up, burning her hand while picking up a diya. Sanjana comments on Gayatri, observing that she unfairly put all the blame on Lakshmi.
Kusum confirms that Mangal sent the children out to play for Diwali. She then questions Adit, asking if what the pandit said is true. Adit admits it. Shocked, Kusum tells Adit she feels ashamed to call him her son. She then decides to throw Sowmya out of the house.
